About Us

Founded by Shawn Waggoner in 2018, Plankowner Brewing Co is a veteran-owned and led brewery headquartered in Boiling Springs, SC. We opened to the public in April 2019 and operate all production and a customer taproom out of our 6,500 square foot facility off I-85. Our facility features live music, games, full kitchen, and a range of events & activities. We are a coastal/nautical themed brewery and heavily involved in the sailing community and local charities. Plankowner Brewing Co beer can be found statewide here in South Carolina, both in draft and packaged products. We take great pride in producing quality approachable/crushable beers that fit the sailing and coastal lifestyles. Our passion for beer covers dozens of styles, including ambers, lagers, stouts, sours and Belgian-inspired creations. Shawn Waggoner – Owner & Brewer

Shawn Waggoner was born in Daytona Beach, FL and grew up in West Palm Beach diving and sailing. He joined US Navy after high school and spent 4 years serving. In 1993 he moved back to FL went to Florida Atlantic University. While home brewing for several years, he got involved as co-owner Devour Brewing in Boynton Beach, FL in 2016 and helped with its operations and distribution. After spending almost 20 years in the Information Technology field doing technical sales, project management and business consulting he decided it was time for a change of pace and to focus on brewing full time. He moved to SC in 2018 to start a new brewery and opened the doors of Plankowner Brewing Co in April 2019.

Kyle Grove – Head Brewer

Kyle Grove was born and raised in South Florida. He attended Florida State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. While in college, Kyle started home brewing and has entered numerous brew competitions around FL over the years. After graduating, he commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Louisiana Army National Guard where he served for 5. After leaving the Army, Kyle began working as a bartender at Devour Brewing Co. in Boynton Beach, Florida. Kyle quickly moved from bartender to assistant brewer and eventually took over the head brewer position and operations. After 3 years there, Kyle moved to South Carolina to help open and become the Head Brewer at Plankowner Brewing Co.

Darion Roland – Assistant Brewer / Cellarman

Darion Roland was born in Greer, SC and was raised in Boiling Springs, SC. He attended the University of South Carolina Upstate and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and a Minor in Art History. After graduating college Darion helped open Ciclops Cyderi & Brewery where he worked as a bartender and assisted in brewing and production. Over the years he has worked for a military company designing apparel, mugs, challenge coins, etc. Also GeekSquad for a couple of years and a small brewery in Charlotte, NC. After moving back from Charlotte, Darion was offered the position of Assistant Brewer / Cellarman at Plankowner, and the rest is history.
